Stare means to be in a certain place.

Essere means to be in general.
Io sono anziana--I'm old.

Fare la spesa- shopping for necessities.

Natale `e la festa della Nativi`ta.

Mangiamo pesce durante la vigilia

e panettone nel mattino di Natale.

Che mangi, o bevi a Natale?

Carne come pollo o manzo?  Meat like chicken or beef?

Verdure come cipolle o spinaci? Greens like onions or spinach?

Pasta come spaghetti o ravioli? Pasta like spaghetti or ravioli?

Dolci come biscotti, budino o torta? Sweets like cookies, pudding or cake?

Acqua minerale o acqua fresca? Mineral water or fresh water?

Vino o latte? Wine or milk?

Caff`e o t`e? Coffee or tea?

Christmas is the feast of the Nativity.
We eat fish on Christmas Eve
and panettone on Christmas Day.
