Festa di Natale

Natale `e la festa della Nativi`ta.

Mangiamo pesce durante la vigilia
e panettone nel mattino di Natale.

Che mangi, o bevi a Natale?

Carne come pollo o manzo?  Meat like chicken or beef?
Verdure come cipolle o spinaci? Greens like onions or spinach?
Pasta come spaghetti o ravioli? Pasta like spaghetti or ravioli?
Dolci come biscotti, budino o torta? Sweets like cookies, pudding or cake?

Acqua minerale o acqua fresca? Mineral water or fresh water?
Vino o latte? Wine or milk?
Caff`e o t`e? Coffee or tea?

Christmas is the feast of the Nativity.
We eat fish on Christmas Eve
and panettone on Christmas Day.

What do you eat, and drink at Christmas?

The verb mangiare, to eat,  and bere, to drink, are conjugated this way in the present tense:

Io mangio (I)
Tu mangi (you)
Lui mangia ( he)
Noi mangiamo(we)
Voi mangiate(you, pl.)
Loro mangiano(they)

Io bevo
Tu bevi
Ella beve
Noi beviamo
Voi bevete
Loro bevono

Note:Italian words are pronounced the way they look.
Vowels are all pronounced, even if there are two in a row.

  3. Yes I have been on your other blog.
In the 50s, for a brief period I was hired to give French and English courses to newly arrived Italian immigrants. I had about 20 between 16 and 60 years of age. They may not have learned much French or English but I did catch on to some Italian. Altough they came from various regions and did not all speak the same Italian.
Besides my 6 years learning Latin are of some help. Ma parla piano si vogliate che io capisce.
