Lavorando

This is Brian, my youngest son.

A lui piace lavorare nel giardino.
He likes to work in the garden.

Nel sole, o nella pioggia.
In the sun, or in the rain.

Nel mattino, o nel pomeriggio.
In the morning, or in the afternoon,

A lui piace piantare e annafiare i fiori e gli ortaggi.
He likes to plant and water flowers and vegetables.

E  a te? Ti piace lavorare nel giardino?
And you? Do you like to work in the garden? ( Do you like to do yard work?)

Quando lavori? A che tempo preferisci lavorare nel giardino?
When do you work? What time of the day do you prefer to work in the yard?

Heard around ...Idioms, expressions, useful nods.

Che stai facendo? How are you managing?

Non mi piace.  (Anche, non me ne frego!) I don't care much at all. (Or, I don't give shit!)

Fattala stare. Let it be.

Fatti i fatti tuoi. Mind your business.

Capisci? Got it? Do you understand?

Ch'e? What? What is it? What's up?

Quanto basta. Just right. (as in put salt and pepper to your liking)

Cosi, cosi. So, so.

A mano manoUn po' all volta. A bit at a time; after a while.

D'accordo. Fine. Will do. I can live with that.

Fatti i conti. Figure it out. Add it up.

Pescare

Andiamo al mare.
Let's go to the sea.

E' tempo di pescare.
It's time to go fishing.

Ch'e tipo di pesca?
What kind of fishing?

These small boats are for fishing tuna, o whatever type of fish one finds.

Si puo' pescare senza reti?
Can one fish without nets?

Si' si puo' pescare in tanti modi.
Yes, one can fish in many ways.

Non mi piace pescare nel mare.
I don't like fishing in the sea.

Nemmeno a me.
Neither do I. I like to fish in a river or in a lake, without a boat, from the shore.

Buona Fortuna!

Italiano nel mondo

In tutto il mondo si parla italiano.
Italian is spoken all over the world.

Si parla italiano at Starbuck's
It's Italian at Starbuck's.

Si parla italiano al restorante.
It's Italian at a restaurant.

Si parla italiano nel super-mercato.
Italian is spoken in the supermarket.

Si parla italiano al cinema.
Italian is spoken at the movies.

Italian for style, to eat well, to speak of love.

Compriamo un Armani. Mangiamo un piatto di spaghetti alle vongole.

Dimmi parole tenere, d'amore, come queste: "Ti voglio tanto bene, caro mio."

Let's buy an Armani (suit). Let's eat a plate of spaghetti with clams.
Tell me sweet words of love, like these: "I care for you very much, my dear."

No. Parlo un po', poche parole.
No. I speak a little, a few words.

Non parlo bene. Per piacere, parli piu' lentamente.
I do not speak well. Please, speak slower.

Ripeta, per favore.
Repeat, please.

Mi puo' trovarmi un interprete?
Could you find me an interpreter?

This is my firts trip to Italy.

Visito i miei parenti.

Sono in vacanza.
